VBS Registration Information
Our Camp Mission: To provide a safe and positive camp experience for kids and youth so that they can connect to each other and God through Christian Education and outdoor activities.
What does the day look like for kid campers? Each day campers are checked-in at First Lutheran’s social hall by 8:30 am. Crew Leaders check to make sure campers have a lunch and gym shoes. These are no-go items! We start the day at a Morning Celebration to take attendance, sing camp songs, introduce the lesson for the day and connect with our crew members. Making new friends is one of our goals!
After a bus ride to Walcamp in Kingston, we have two rotations of activities around the pavilion. There are bathrooms, plenty of fresh water and even our own camp nurse! Before heading over to the lake for our water activities, campers take a break for snacks, more water and a bathroom visit. We make sure kids eat their snack or lunch but still have plenty of time to talk to friends!
Water activities include a rotation of swimming, fishing or canoeing and water games. The lake is ecologically safe and certified life guards are on duty. Children Pre-K to 1st grade are not allowed to canoe just yet. Campers return to the pavilion for lunch and their final two lesson rotations. All lesson rotations, even snacks, are based on each day’s Bible lesson as all kids learn differently! We end the day back at First Lutheran in the Social Hall for water, singing at the Afternoon Celebration and a safe check-out system.
Middle school Youth! Youth in grades 6-8th are invited to be Jr. Crew Leaders. This is a great opportunity to experience leadership with adult supervision and give recommendation for youth that have positive participation. Camp fees are waived for all youth who are Jr. Crew Leaders!
Our expectations of youth as Jr. Crew Leaders: refrain from electronic devices, sing the camp songs, assist younger kids with their art work, canoe, fish, swim in the lake and be helpful to their Crew Leader.
*All youth who will be Jr. Crew Leaders are REQUIRED to attend a training before VBS camp!
Bad Weather? Close attention will be paid to weather forecasts and determine our rain contingency plans. Camp will be held at Walcamp under cover of the Pavilion in light rain. In the case of any projected weather emergency, we will stay at the First Lutheran Church and conduct a rain-day camp on site!
