Dear Friends in Christ,
Holy Week is before us again. As always it is a week full of opportunity to worship, to hear the ancient story of God’s great love for you in Jesus, and to grow in faith. Please be sure to join us as we gather again and again during this special week and mark the movement from Death to Life. May our faith be deepened as we encounter Christ during those Holy Days: Sunday, March 29 at 9:00 AM Palm Sunday — We will gather in the Atrium to Bless the Palms. Together we will process in as the people did so long ago as they celebrated Jesus’ entrance into Jerusalem.
Thursday, April 2 at 7:00 PM Maundy Thursday — On this special night we remember Jesus washing the feet of his commandment and giving them a new commandment to love one another. At the beginning of the service following the Confession, you will have the opportunity to come forward to individually hear the words of forgiveness. We also gather around a table for Holy Communion in groups of 12 (symbolizing the twelve disciples) to receive the bread and wine of the Sacrament. The service closes with the altar being stripped — symbolizing Jesus’ impending suffering and death.
Friday, April 3 from 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM Silent Prayer Vigil — Sign up for a time segment to sit in silence in our sanctuary to meditate on Christ’s Sacrifice for you on the Cross. More than one person can sign up for a time slot, but the goal is to have at least one person present in prayer during those hours.
Friday, April 3 at 7:00 PM Good Friday Tenebrae Service — During this service we hear the story of Jesus’ Crucifixion and Death. The lights will be dimmed until we finish in darkness and silence.
Saturday: April 4 at 7:00 PM Easter Vigil — This service begins in darkness and becomes increasingly light. It is the first celebration of Easter. In the early church, this service was a time set aside for baptism. If you or someone you love is considering baptism and would like to be baptized at the Easter Vigil, please be in conversation with me right away!
Sunday, April 5 at 7:00 AM Easter Sunrise Service at the Cemetery — We will gather at Fairview Cemetery where we will celebrate the Good News of Easter in a place similar to where the Good News of Jesus’ Resurrection was first shared!
Sunday, April 5 at 9:00 AM Festival of the Resurrection — The congregation will gather for celebratory worship with Holy Communion!
Sunday, April 5 at 10:15 AM Easter Breakfast — We join together for a meal served by our youth. It is during this special week that we hear the ancient stories which continue to shape us and give us life. It is during these special days that we remember the meaning of Christ’s Death and Resurrection for each of us and all of us. Be sure to join us. Invite a friend. You will surely be blessed. Peace to you and many blessings,
